With it being around mid-day CET, I decided that I needed to do some exploring, That, and my hotel room wouldn’t be ready for another couple of hours.
I, therefore, head the train station.
For me doing stuff what I would call “being lazy”, I spent €9.75 on a day ticket that would cover the train into downtown frankfurt, as well as trams and such.
Because to be honest, whilst I might have been mobile, I was tiring. Rapidly.
I caught an S8 to Hauptwache Station. I also experienced the “new to me” trains that are used in the area for the first time. These are pretty modern trains, with information screens, as well as the usual “Who needs padding on a seat” custom that is loved in regional transit in Germany.
Loads on the train were not overly busy – normally at midday, it would be bustling when I travelled in the past.
Popping out of the trains and walking outside, the mask-wearing compliance dropped from “every single person wearing a mask right down to “what is a mask”.
That and social distancing… what’s that?
With the out at the near the Zeil, I had a couple of things to do (stock up on some little bits and bobs to bring back to the land of Brexitania, as well as grab a bite).
I also took this as a chance to swap out of the KN95 respirator I had been wearing for the past few hours – as the elastic was digging in at that point.
With a leopard print mask on, it was time to explore the wonders of Condor, as well as explore a local weekend market at the top of the Zeil (well, I didn’t get sucked into the Eye of the Zeil, so that’s one thing).
Of course, I had a hankering for currywurt. Because, Currywurst. Thankfully, there’s a branch of Bestworscht in Town on the Ziel.
I chose basic currywurst. Not because I’m basic… because I wanted just to enjoy a currywurst.
However, after an hour and a bit – tiredness caught up with me. I chose to head to towards the Römerberg, as it would lead to a tram back to the train station and towards the hotel.
Thankfully I made my way to the tram, for the short ride to the Hbf.. and one-stop beyond to the hotel I would be staying at – the Mercure City/Messe
