The fall-out of the UK Tier 4 move has begun, with The Netherlands banning air travel between itself and the United Kingdom.
The ban is operation between the 06:00 20th December 2020 to 1st January 2021.
This ban is a result of mutation of the COVID-19 virus, which spreads more easily and faster and is more difficult to detect. The UK Government imposed Tier 4 lockdown in the South East of England, with Wales and Scotland have gone into lockdown.
The Dutch agency – RIVM has revised the travel advice for people coming from the United Kingdom on the basis of the reports on the situation in the UK. Pending further information and an explanation of the epidemiological situation in the United Kingdom, RIVM recommends that any introduction of this virus strain from the United Kingdom should be limited as much as possible by limiting or controlling passenger movements from the United Kingdom as much as possible.
As such, a no-fly route for passenger between the UK and The Netherlands has been established.
This ban does not currently apply to car, ferry and train passengers, though the Dutch government are keeping this under review and advise against all but essential travel via these means.
All passengers arriving in The Netherlands are required to self-isolate for 10 days. Arrivals to the United Kingdom will also be required to self-isolate for 10 days.
What you need to do
If you have air travel planned between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, bin them now. You’ll need to contact your airline to arrange credit vouchers or refunds (and good luck with that).
If your travel is by car, ferry or train, you do have a little time to travel… but things are changing fast.
Plan appropriately.
