UK Travel Bans: UAE added, along with other countries

28/01/2021 by Kevincm

Whilst the Travel Corridors List is now moot for some time, the UK Travel Ban list is growing. Let’s take a look at who is affected.

Countries added to the UK Red List:

  • United Arab Emirates
  • Burundi
  • Rwanda

This will go into effect at 1pm UK time on 29 January. After this point, you will not be able to fly directly to the “>UK from the “>from these countries after this time.

For nationals who have been to these countries with intent to enter the United Kingdom, they will be denied entry. This includes departures, as well transiting through the countries (e.g. transiting Dubai/Abu Dhabi, travelling onto the United Kingdom)

The only exceptions for this are British, Irish and third-country nationals with residence rights.

Travellers who are returning from these countries who are allowed enter must self-isolate for ten days at home – for now.

Countries currently on the Red List

  • Angola
  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Botswana
  • Brazil
  • Cape Verde
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Ecuador
  • Eswatini
  • French Guiana
  • Guyana

  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores)
  • Seychelles

The updated list can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/transport-measures-to-protect-the-uk-from-variant-strains-of-covid-19#travel-bans-to-the-uk—banned-countries (at the time of publication, the list has not been updated.

Remember to complete the mandatory requirements

If you are intent on travelling to the United Kingdom and can meet the requirements of entry, you will need to ensure that you have completed a Negative COVID-19 test taken up to 3 days before departure. If you do not comply (and you do not have a valid exemption) your airline or carrier may refuse you boarding and/or you may be fined on arrival.

In addition, you must complete a passenger locator form before you travel to England. This is subject to the usual fines for not completing it.

If you do not complete this, you could be subject to a £500 fine on arrival.
