Recaro Aircraft Seating begin to offer their seating products on Embraer aircraft

03/03/2021 by Kevincm

With the changing markets, companies continue to adapt – with Recaro Aircraft Seating now offering their products on Embraer aircraft.

The first Embraer regional aircraft to have Recaro seats installed is the Embraer E195-E2 and E-190 for KLM Cityhopper – the regional branch of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines..  KLM Cityhopper is the first regional jet customer for Recaro.

These aircraft will be fitted with BL3710 and SL3710 seats. These will be configured in a hybrid layout on the E190 and E195-E2 KLM Cityhopper regional jets. The E195-E2 is configured with 132 seats, while the E190 has 100 seats.

The BL3710 offers a six-way adjustable headrest, additional back support, and the modular seat design ensures a streamlined cabin layout and minimal maintenance. These will be used to the front of the cabin.

Meanwhile, the SL3710 combines an ergonomic design and durable parts to create a comfortable seat with a reduced total cost of ownership for airlines. Specifically created for short and medium-haul flights. These will be installed to the rear of the cabin.

In Quotes

Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating.

“Expanding into the regional jet market is a tremendous opportunity for Recaro to grow our capabilities and strengthen our customer base,”

“Embraer has been a fantastic party through this experience. I have great confidence in this move and our ability to rise to a new challenge.”

Fernando Antônio Oliveira, Vice President Programs, Embraer Commercial Aviation.

“Embraer worked closely with KLM Cityhopper and Recaro to certify the Buyer Furnished Equipment seats for our EJet platforms”,

“With Recaro seats now certified for EJet platforms, a greater selection of seat products will be available for customers on request, further increasing customers’ options for enhancing the passenger journey.”

A New Market

Entering a new market can posses challenges for both understanding the platform, certifying the platform as well as maintenance. Recaro’s seating is used by KLM already on their long haul aircraft, with some knowledge already existing. The challenge for Reacaro in the future is to drive further sales (either as factory-fitted options or as upgrades).

With some of the options existing being less than comfortable (to put it mildly), the entry of Recaro is welcome for those who are to enjoy and utilise these new aircraft.
