The Lufthansa low-cost airline has been active since the 1st of May this year, with the airline making a new base at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
Eurowings has chosen to base a total of three aircraft at the airport. In turn, the airline estimates that 100 jobs have been created in the area.
The airline is expecting an uptick in passengers, with the passengers able to connect from Berlin to various destinations
German Domestic
- Cologne/Bonn
- Düsseldorf
- Stuttgart
International
- Palma de Mallorca
- Heraklion
- Gran Canaria
- Beirut
Other destinations are also in the network as well. The airline is planning a service increase in the summer months to vacation destinations in Corsica, Croatia, Egypt, and Austria.
Berlin appears to be working well for Eurowings, as the airline is noting demand is increasing, with an average 35 percent increase in bookings on all routes from Berlin. Tourist flights to Mallorca (up to 80 percent) and Crete are in particularly high demand.
Anyone would think that people want a vacation after the past year or so.
Eurowings has been busy out of Berlin – even during the lockdown, with the airline flying over 1,600 flights from the airport.
The Berlin base may be just what the airline needs, with forward demand picking up for the summer – certainly, a lot of people will want to get away and relax as restrictions ease.
For Eurowings, there is an opportunity to build out the Berlin base as time goes on (at the years that Berlin Brandenburg has been in construction). Meanwhile, the summer could make or break the base.
It will be interesting to see how the base grows out in the longer term.
