I was planning to go to the Champions League final…
Whilst football to some is a matter of life and death, UEFA considering switching the venue of the Champions League final.
At the time of writing Chelsea face Manchester City in the final on 29 May and was due to be held in Istanbul Turkey.
The government advice to red list countries of course is “Do Not Travel”. And that includes football fans who wish to travel to Turkey sadly.
We’ll find out of UEFA wishes to move the tie to another venue, but for now, you could be enjoying the final on the sofa, rather than in person…
What about the Green and Amber lists?
The Green and Amber Lists go into effect on 17th May. The Green List cover 12 destinations, whilst the Amber List will cover any country, not in the Green or Red lists.
You’re going to be needing to considering a lot more than usual this summer.
Like a lot of you, I spend far too much time researching trips and being prepared for them (as well as the bumps you might encounter on the way). This summer, you’re going to need to invest that time researching:
- If you can enter the county
- What requirements are needed to enter the country (e.g., will they accept a lateral flow test or require a PCR test?)
- How long you need to quarantine for (if needed) and how
- Will the quarantine rules change when I’m abroad and thus, will I need to isolate when I get home?
- What entry requirements do I need to go home (and what tests do I need to have done?)
- How much will this all cost, including my flights, hotel and spending money?
A lot more than the old fashioned “tickets, money, passport” that you need to get going.
Planning and making contingencies will be important going forward for some time – as well as having appropriate travel insurance.
