We are sticking with Air France, with a curious offer if you are based out of the country – with the airline offering Discount Passes – which the airline has claimed to improve.
The airline offers three passes:
- the Youth pass for 12–24-year-olds
- the Senior pass for +65-year-olds
- the Weekend pass renamed the Weekend + pass for all adults.
Passholders are entitled to lower fares, with a discount of up to 30% on Standard fares, to short and medium-haul destinations on departure from France.
In offering the passes, Air France has changed the fee structure. Previously, it was €59 for the Senior Pass and €69 for the Weekend Pass. All passes are now offered at €49 each
Providing you can make the mathematics work; the pass should pay for itself after a round trip (or at the most – two round trips). The passes also entitle holders to more flexible ticket modification and refund conditions (change fee €10 / refund fee €20), subject to fare differences and ticket conditions.
Expanded Coverage
In the past, these passes were only offered for use within France. With a push by the French Government to reduce domestic flying, Air France is expanding the coverage of the pass, adding Medium Haul destinations into the mix. The destination list includes:
- Europe (including Ukraine)
- North Africa (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia)
- Armenia
- Georgia
- Russia Turkey
Remember, you need to be in France to take advantage of this…
Sadly, the passes are offered for departures from France – so users from other countries will struggle to take advantage of these passes.
If you are after one, they are being offered on the Air France French site at www.airfrance.fr for purchase.
