With this pandemic, flying has been the least of some peoples concerns – however, with that, there is a risk that your status in your frequent flyer programme might change.
Finnair is seeking to reassure its customers, with the airline extending both tier points and award points validity.

The airline is extending tier tracking periods and making a further freeze to the expiration of Finnair Plus award points.
If you hold status with Finnair, you will be given a 6-month extension to your active tier. This will be applied in June or July 2021 before your current tier ends.
Tier upgrades will continue as normal, and the validity of tier benefits such as Giveaway Gold cards and upgrades will also be extended for six months.
In terms of award points, Finnair Plus Award Points will not expire before the end of March 2022, thus giving you time to spend more points. Although it is always a good idea to top up your points balance with a little purchase – as points expire normally after 18 months of inactivity.
So, to keep your points alive, make a transaction award points transaction every 18 months – this could be via flying, through the Finnair duty-free and so on. Here is a good start if you need some inspiration.
Offering more options

An extension on frequent flyer status is welcome – I make no bones about that. With the status extensions taking passengers towards the end of the year, hopefully, things might calm down a bit.
Or enough to convince Finnair passengers to take to the skies again.
