Japan Airlines introduce’s “Sky Wellness Kitchen” with TANITA Cafe

05/07/2021 by Kevincm

Japan Airlines has always tried to be innovative in the air when it comes to the second meal service. The airline is working with TANITA for a meal and wellness product on its long haul routes.

The move comes as part of the JAL “AIR series,” which has been in operation since 2011, will be revamped to offer a new menu,
“Sky Wellness Kitchen” for Your Body’s Pleasure.

The menu is supervised by TANITA CAFÉ, a concept café operated by TANITA that incorporates the essence of “mental health promotion”. The first item on the menu is the “Chewing” Healthy Salad Bowl, accompanied by a leaflet that introduces the immunity column and original stretching exercises of TANITA Gymnastics.

Focusing on boosting immunity, TANITA CAFÉ will offer an original menu that incorporates the “chewing” element, which is one of the features of TANITA CAFÉ, and nutrients such as protein that boost immunity. In addition to activating the brain, chewing is expected to improve the immunes system , which protects the body from viruses and bacteria that invade from outside the body. We are planning to offer new menu items under the supervision of TANITA CAFÉ in the future.

As for the item itself:

The menu contains proteins, vitamins, and dietary fiber that boosts immunity. Mochi wheat rice, which is rich in dietary fiber and has a bubble wrap texture, contains clams and root vegetables with iron and zinc. The salt marinated chicken breast containing vitamin B6, and tomato sauce containing vitamins A, C, and E, which have antioxidant effects, are a perfect match for a healthy salad bowl.

The desert features a smooth pudding that uses soy milk containing lactic acid bacteria with crushed texture of strawberry sauce and pistachio accents.

In-flight meals will be served with a leaflet that describes health knowledge. The leaflet includes a column focusing on immunity, which is attracting attention right now, as well as TANITA Gymnastics original stretches that can be easily done at home or your destination.

In addition, from November, “In-Flight Gymnastics,” one of the in-flight video contents, will be renewed with a new video supervised by TANITA. The exercises, which can be performed easily to the music, will not only help prevent deep vein thrombosis but will also refresh the body and make long flights more comfortable.

The meals started flying on the 1st July on JAL’s international long-haul routes from Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Kansai International Airport.

  • From Narita to Boston, Los Angles, San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver, Frankfurt, Melbourne
  • From Haneda to New York (JL004/JL006), Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angles, Dallas, London, (JL43), Paris, Helsinki
  • From Kansai to Los Angles

They will be offered between July 1st 2021 to October 31s, 2021 in both Economy and Business Class

Adding to the passenger experience

As airline seek to different themselves as they come out of the COVID Crisis, JAL is looking back to concepts that has worked well for the airline -and the JAL Sky Menus have always been a part of that experimentation.

With wellness in the air being a much sharper point than it was in the past, this could be something that Japan Airlines can capitalise on the next few months.
