With the recent change in quarantine/isolation requirements, British Airways is adding major capacity lifts from the USA to the UK, as well as additional service to Europe.

Major capacity boosts include:
- New York-JFK to London Heathrow will increase to 21 services per week (up from 17 per week), from 16th August
- Los Angeles to London Heathrow will increase to 10 per week (up from 7 per week) from 16th August
- Chicago to London Heathrow will increase to 10 per week (up from 7 per week) from 16 August 2021
- Seattle and London Heathrow will increase to 7 services per week (up from 4 per week) from 23 August
- Los Angeles to London Heathrow will increase to 14 per week from 23 August
The airline is planning to broaden its schedule between the USA and UK throughout September.
Customers from the US will be able to take advantage of the increased timetable, as well as services to the UK with American Airlines, with one-stop connections as needed, offering regular direct services to/from 12 airports.
The airline will also add additional European services to:
- Berlin
- Geneva
- Hamburg
The European and Short-Haul network is being kept under constant review, so check before you travel.
Passengers can connect at Heathrow if required to European and UK Domestic destinations – providing they meet the appropriate entry criteria.
The additional flights are open for booking if you wish to take advantage of them.
The move follows a surge in bookings by 95% from the USA, as well as from European cities, as well as trials the airline has conducted.

Sean Doyle, British Airways Chairman and CEO said:
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming new visitors from the US and EU to the UK from next week, many of which will be reuniting with their family members for the first time in many months. This move will also help boost the British economy and the hospitality sector, which like aviation, has been crippled by the effects of the pandemic.
“We will support our customers as we emerge from this crisis and hope for crucial travel corridors to be established to allow reciprocal agreements. This will allow UK nationals to travel as the UK’s Covid cases fall and vaccination rates continue to rise.”
If you offer capacity and easy entry, they will come
It seems that with the easing of entry by the Government, the pent-up demand for long haul travel is finally finding traction. With the airline noticing bookings shooting up, British Airways has responded to the demand, bringing back capacity to destinations that require it.
Whilst airlines continue to hope the White House will ease its travel restrictions, having passengers flow at least one way will be a welcome sight.
For families who wish to reunite, those who need to meet for business or those who want a break from their own spaces, the time is now.
