It seems the prefered airline of Jess Glynne – – Jet2.com – is ordering new aircraft – and this time from Airbus.
Jet2 Airbus A321neo – Rendering Airbus.
Jet2.com is adding 36 Airbus A321neo aircraft to its fleet, in a major move away from Boeing.
The order reflects Jet2.com’s ambitious fleet expansion and renewal plans. Engine selection will be made at a later date, with these aircraft replacing older Boeing aircraft the airline operates.
Internally, the aircraft will be configured for 232 seats with an Airspace cabin that features innovative lighting, new seating products and 60 per cent larger overhead baggage bins for added personal storage.

Philip Meeson, Jet2.com Executive Chairman said,
“Jet2.com will be proud to operate the Airbus A321neo in the years ahead. This aircraft is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well deserved Jet2holiday.”
Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International said:
“We very much welcome Jet2.com’s decision. Traditionally having been operating non fly-by-wire aircraft, we note with great satisfaction that after having tested a couple of leased A321s and run a comprehensive evaluation, Jet2.com is forward looking and investing in modern and future proof Airbus fly-by-wire technology. This is a testimony to Jet2.com’s vision of efficiency, quality, performance and environmentally friendly flying,”
Extra benefits for Jet2
Jet2 will also be able to take advantage of some of the benefits of the A321neo. With new generation engines and Sharklets (which deliver a major reduction in fuel consumption per seat) and additional range/payload, the type offers the A321neo will deliver Jet2.com with additional revenue potential – which for a holiday carrier is never a bad thing.
A move away from Boeing
Jet2.com is traditionally a Boeing customer, with the airline having:
- 74 Boeing 737-800
- 7 Boeing737-300
- 8 Boeing 757-200
- 1 Airbus A321
With the airline leasing in extra A321 capacity when needed, it’s given the chance for the airline to try it out in service and see how it fits. It seems the benefits and the price negotiated enough for the 36 aircraft was enough to let Jet2 consider switching.
In the first instance, there are easy replacements, with the airline being able to replace their existing 737-300 and 757-200 aircraft, leaving the older 737-800s to go.
It’s going to be a big move away from Boeing – one that might cause a little discomfort for the airline manufacturer.
