Time for a quick Hotel Check, focusing on the Travelodge Wirral Eastham.
Price Paid
I paid £49.00 for a room with an extra bed plus £3 for Wi-Fi prepaid. This was £7 over the normal rate, for an extra bed.
The payment was completed with American Express, as I’m playing around with a British Airways Amex card at the moment, and momma needs to make her spend to get her bonus Avios.
Location
The Travelodge Eastham is located off Junction 5 of the M53, as you travel up the Wirral.
Turn towards Eastham on the A41, and it’s on your left, behind a Starbucks.
Not so spooky, but dark.
Check-in
With the hotel prepaid, all that was needed to check in to my hotel was my name. I was issued a key, with a security puck to grant us access into the hotel.
Reception.
Buy all the things!
The room was located on the ground floor.

The Room
I specified an extra bed for the room, as I was staying with a friend that night who had business in the area. What we got… was two extra beds.
Three beds?
Yes. Three of them.
This was… a surprise – but gave us both room to play and sleep in. There was plenty of room for me too, as, at the time of writing, I’m hobbling around on a crutch still.
The main bed was reasonably firm enough and comfortable, whilst the side beds were foldaway. And yes, I tipped one of them when falling out of bed.
There were tea and coffee making facilities, along with a kettle to keep us watered, along with an iron and ironing board.
The comforts of home. If a home is a mug and sachets of coffee & tea.
The TV was relatively modern and was good for some minor entertainment.
Entertain me!
Extra pillows and towels were provided, along with a fan.
The bathroom was reasonably clean, with built-in amenities for shower gel and hand wash gel.
Well, it’s clean. Although the extractor has probably got more than its fair number of stories to tell.
The carpet has seen better days, but that’s life for a Travelodge.
An additional note my friend made was that the room didn’t smell of used smoke. Which for the asthmatic in me, is more than welcome.
Whilst there was no fixed heater in the room, there was an Oil heater in the room. Whilst the room was cold initially, it warmed up a LOT overnight.
That thing got very hot!
Power outlets were minimal in the room sadly, which these days is a lot more annoying when people are travelling with chargers and devices that need charging.
Wi-Fi
Measured Wi-Fi provisioned by the hotel was 5Mb down, 1Mb down. The Wi-Fi plan allows for two devices to be connected.
Breakfast
This is a more traditional Travelodge, and as such the offering was “Breakfast in a box” – or as I like to call it – how much sugar can you cram in a box?
We skipped breakfast.
There were other vending options in reception, with a vending machine available. Again – we passed.
Check out
Check out was simple enough, as there was no one on reception. We dropped the key and fob off – and off we went.
To the exit!
Simple checkouts are the best.
Overall
Expectations are always “tempered” when staying at a Travelodge – namely, as I expect a clean room, a power outlet is always nice, a chance of a reasonable nights sleep and that’s about it
And in these respects, the Travelodge fulfilled those expectations.
I’d like faster Wi-Fi speeds, as a tethered phone running off 4G can do a hell of a lot better than the provisioned Wi-Fi.
The location was excellent for us – as we had business to do on the Wirral (a few motorway junctions down), making it easy for us to drive to and leave, as well as explore a bit of the Wirral too.
And if you get a nice day, it’s a short drive to Hoylake. If the sun is shining and the tide is out, there’s a wonderful walk on the sands (even if you’re hobbling on a crutch).
