Geven Seating is continuing work with to PriestmanGoode on their seating products – this time unveiling Materia, a new premium seat.

The launch of Materia follows the launch of Geven’s Elemento economy seat last August.

Both models are part of Geven’s line of next-generation products, which feature innovative designs that focus on passenger benefits, allow for airline customization and are easily configurable for different aircraft types.

According to Geven

The design language for the next-generation family of seats is driven by key attributes: functionality, cleanliness of design contours, all-embracing Italy’s unparalleled heritage of exquisite craftsmanship and timeless design.

In the basic configuration, a base colour palette inspired by the Geven brand colours and the Italian coastline at sunset. Throughout the different classes, they include greys, deep blues with splashes of warmth.

Onto more practical matters…

The Materia seat has been designed to be used in both narrow and wide-body aircraft giving airlines the same level of refinement and features across their entire fleet. They also provide a consistent passenger experience on short and long haul flights.

In implementation terms, you could expect Materia to show up on Short-Haul Business Class, or a Long Haul Premium Economy Cabin.

The seat has been designed to offer different levels of privacy, storage room and greater directional lighting for some scenarios.

The materials selected are to give an enhanced sense of quality with details such as wood inlays, leather and infused plastics.

The seat features an integrated class-leading monitor for in-flight entertainment, with an additional storage shelf beneath. End bays feature detailing that wraps around the back shell to give the feeling of a fully connected seat.

Alberto Veneruso, Managing Director at Geven adds

Daniel Macinnes, Design Director at PriestmanGoode says,

“Our partnership with Geven combines their technical expertise with our design knowledge and our combined insight into customer experience. We began working on this next generation of seats in September 2020. What we have achieved in that time is testament to the outstanding capabilities of both teams, and shows that great collaborations can lead to great innovation. The next-generation seats provide Geven with a strong offer to support the aviation industry as we start to move towards recovery.”

Treading the middle ground

As Geven Seating continues to update its seating line, it’s good to see the design language carried through to the second in the major partnership they are conducting with PriestmanGoode.

The seat treads the middle ground for airlines who want a premium product – either for the short to mid-haul market or as a step-up seat from an Economy Class product.

It’ll be interesting to see who adds this product line to their aircraft.
