British Airways offers 50% bonuses on Avois purchases

10/12/2021 by Kevincm

For those who need to top up their Avios balance, British Airways is offering a 50% bonus purchase on Avois

In the example cited by BA, if you buy 10,000 Avios before 19 December 2021, you’ll actually get 15,000 Avios. 20,000 becomes 30,000, 100,000 becomes 150,000.

You can purchase them at https://pgt.shopping.ba.com/

There are the usual terms and conditions:

  • Offer valid from 07:00 GMT on 10 December 2021 until 23:59 GMT on 19 December 2021.
  • Access to Reward Flight Saver, you need to have collected at least one Avios in the past 12 months. To find out more about Reward Flight Saver, click here. Reward flights are subject to availability.
  • You can buy a maximum of 200,000 Avios in any one calendar year
  •  Avios can only be bought in specified amounts, starting at a minimum of 1,000 Avios.
  • The Purchaser will be able to spend Avios when they appear as credited in the Purchaser’s Executive Club account. There may be occasions where there is a delay of up to 3 working days in the Avios being credited to your account.  If after this time you have not received your Avios,
  • The Purchaser must have at least one Avios in their Executive Club account in order to buy Avios. If the Purchaser has a balance of zero Avios, they will need to have collected or redeemed Avios in the past 36 months in order to buy Avios.

Worth it?

The usual logic applies to this sort of purchase – if you’re using them top off your account for a big redemption – this is a good idea. If you’re buying Avios to stockpile them for a rainy day… I’d hold off buying – as the Bank of International Airlines Group tends to devalue rather than add value in the majority of situations.

At a 50% bonus, it’s the highest I’ve seen for some time. It could be the time to buy if you need them.
