Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (5th/6th February)

05/02/2022 by Kevincm

It’s the end of another week at Economy Class and Beyond. Let us see what’s happened in the world that I covered this week…

a coffee cup and a face mask
It’s been a rough week to put it nicely. If you’re interested, I’ll write about it sometime. But for now (and after two negative lateral flow tests in two days), I’m back up and running. Ish. Mostly ish.

Government Policy

  • UK Government announces plans to change Air Passenger Rights – Let us see how much lobbying by airlines will kill the benefits to the consumer

New Aircraft News

  • Qatar Airways signs for Boeing 737 MAX 10 and Boeing 777-8F – Well, if you’re surprised Qatar lodged this order after the handbag fights that are happening elsewhere…

Routes and Networks

  • easyJet celebrates 20 years of being orange at Gatwick – It seems that being orange at Gatwick has helped easyJet
  • KLM confirms its Austin, Texas route launch – Just under two years late…
  • British Airway to add Nuremberg to its short-haul network – Another short-haul BA hop
  • Air France to reopen further transatlantic routes – Three more transatlantic routes open back up

Sustainability

  • ATR performs test fights with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel in one engine – One step at a time on the SAF adventure

Pretty pictures

  • Ryanair Boeing 737-800 taking off from Dublin Airport

Next Week

I’m still working through British Airways latest passenger experience announcement (amongst other things), as well as getting a few things back into line (I have two laptop reviews currently in the queue) and trying to sort out the last bits of some outstanding trip planning.

As well as that, I have my usual range of news, views, commentary and wit to keep you all entertained.

But until then, stay safe out there.
