British Airways offers 50% bonus on Avios purchases through 24th March

19/03/2022 by Kevincm

If you need extra Avios to top off a redemption, British Airways might have a deal for you, as they offer a 50% bonus on purchases over 2,000 Avios.

The Avios purchased can be used in the usual ways – upgrades, cash and Avios or pure Avios redemption.

The offer runs until 24th March if you’re in the mood to buy Avios. The magical link is https://pgt.shopping.ba.com/.

You can also use this offer to gift Avios if you want to gift them.  You can buy up to 200,000 Avios per calendar year as a gift for someone else, outside of your own annual allowance. Executive Club Members can receive up to 200,000 gifted Avios a year.

Some basic terms and conditions to bear in mind:

  • This offer is only valid when you Purchase or Gift 2,000 Avios and above. Offer is not valid when you Purchase or Gift 1,000 Avios.
  • Avios can only be purchased or gifted at Purchase and Gift Avios Application Form.
  • The Bonus Avios will not count towards your annual limit of 200,000 Avios.

The full terms are on the purchase page.

Worth it?

I’m going to throw in my usual comments about Avios here – The Bank of Avios valuations only go one way – and its never up. If you’re buying them to use much later on (an Avios retirement fund), I would strongly advise against it.

If you have a redemption planned, in the near future and you need to top up to ensure there is capacity, buy Avios and buy your ticket. Similarly, if you have a redemption that you’re planning in the near future, this could be a good time to buy – just ensure there’s the capacity when you need to book

For those using it for an upgrade in cabin classes, again ensure there is spare capacity available – although you may want to fork out the cash – as a cash upgrade will give you precious Tier Points.

It’s important to check this, as these purchases tend to be non-refundable.

Apply caution as usual.
