Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (9th July)

09/07/2022 by Kevincm

Hello from a rather sunny and warm Birmingham – it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Stories from Aircraft Interiors Expo 22

We’ve kicked off our post-show coverage, with plenty in the queue to come. Here are four articles from this week

  • Does Safran’s Euphony work in practice? – Built-in speakers into the seat… what’s the passenger impact?
  • Recaro shows off its CL3810 Long Haul Economy Seat, with Panasonic Astrova and AERQ’s IFE options – Some interesting upgrades in the Recaro CL3810.
  • Mirus Seating launches its Kestrel seat – we get to try it – And I’m mostly impressed.
  • Oneweb prepares to take off – What can it deliver? – With the oneweb LEO network taking shape, we take a look at the technology behind it, and how it is prepared to deliver.

Passenger Experience

  • SWISS completes its Premium Economy refit aboard its Boeing 777-300ER fleet – Lots of Premium Economy seats are now available on the SWISS long-haul fleet. Expect to see a lot more of this seat in the future.
  • Qatar Airways opens new lounges for Privilege Club Members and oneworld Partners – New lounges opening for Qatar and oneworld customers, depending if you have the shiny status.
  • The Great Heathrow Shuffle – Iberia flights to move to Terminal 3 – Welcome to Heathrow. Allow extra time for your journey if transiting

Routes and Networks

  • EVA Air to expand to two new European destinations – Hello Munich and Milan!
  • SWISS prepares for a busy winter season – Not 100%,  choosing network over frequency.
  • Virgin Atlantic to add Tampa to its network – I wonder what this route would like with a chimney on it (oh. That’s The Tamperer, slight difference).
  • Ryanair to return to Belfast International Airport – The Belfast affair continues for Ryanair.

Trains and Airlines

  • Deutsche Bahn to join Star Alliance as its first Intermodal partner – It’s a start. Add more partners.

Sustainability in the Air

  • Embraer conduct their first SAF flight with one engine filled up – It seems this story garnered a lot of new readers. Thank you for clicking this, this week.

Pretty pictures

  • IndiGo Airbus A320 pushing back at Singapore Changi Airport

Next week

It’s going to remain rather busy on the blog next week – to put it mildly. Our post-Aircraft Interiors Expo content continues at full speed (to the point where the backlog might be cleared next week). As well as that, I’m going for double or bust with the trip report from this event starting up during the week (the first parts are written and checked – so it’s now into the hands of the picture editor to put their content in… oh that’s me too).

However, late next week, we’ll be spending a little more time in the air, with Finnair as I kick off the first of two mileage runs that are in my diary. Because my frequent flyer elite point balance is looking more than a little forlorn.

Until then, happy landings
