Terveisiä Helsingistä (or Hello from Helsinki). I might be having a few days away doing “me time”, but the blog marches on. Just as my feet did doing 21,000+ steps today.
Welcome to Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.
From the 9th floor of the hotel I’m in. I’m impressed with the view -to put it mildly.
AIX22 Coverage
We’re continuing our Aircraft Interiors Expo Post-Show Coverage with some of the innovations in the sky.
- The ZIM Privacy – A valuable upgrade
- Larger overhead bins? Airbus presents a retrofit possibility
- Examining Panasonic’s Astranova System – OLED picture quality in the sky
- Examining AirShield and its place in the cabin
- Semi-Transparent screens as dividers? AERQ shows a possibility for the cabin.
What an Omnishambles
With Heathrow Airport demanding a passenger cap so late in the game, airlines aren’t happy. And that’s the very polite way of putting it.
- Heathrow Airport places caps on departures – 100k a day passenger flight cap. Also, please don’t see any more tickets…
- Emirates on the Heathrow flight/passenger cap: NOPE – And Emirates is having none of this game.
New Aircraft News
- ANA finalises a purchase agreement with Boeing for new aircraft – Some Boeing 777-8F has entered the picture
Passenger Experience
- Indigo selects Recaro BL3710 short haul seat – Short haul comfort in the sky.
- Emirates and Air Canada announces a strategic partnership – It seems the two airlines can get along after all.
- Unveiled: Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A330-900neo’s interiors – It’s a new dawn, It’s new , It’s a new life for me, ooh, And I’m feeling good
Sustainability in the Air
- Aer Lingus to add Sustainable Aviation Fuel capacity from Gevo – Another source of SAF, but there is a long way to go.
Pretty Pictures
Next Week
As some of you might have guessed, if I’m currently in Finland, I’m not going to be on the ground at Farnborough this year. As usual, I’ve got a lot of competing demands at the moment and I have a feeling I’m going to be needed elsewhere that week rather than on the press reporting front lines
In terms of coverage, we will be publishing our Daily Digests in the evening (to allow time for the news cycles to settle down), covering orders, as well as any entertaining side notes during the event.
We’ll be live-tweeting when we can on Twitter as well.
On top of that, I’ll finally get the Hamburg trip report out to publication (that’s ran behind this week due to your editor burning the candle at both ends), as well as anything significant that crosses the feed over the week.
Until then Onnellisia laskeutumisia!
