With JetSMART taking delivery of their first Airbus A321neo, there has to be a seating product installed for passengers. JetSMART selected the Recaro SL3710 as its seating option.
The SL3710 seat from Recaro Aircraft Seating took flight on JetSMART’s A321neo for the first time on August 15. These aircraft will feature a dense configuration, with 240 seats installed on the aircraft – all from Recaro.
It’s going to be an aggressive rollout, with 11,000 SL3710 seats to be installed on JetSMART’s Airbus aircraft over the next five years.
This order is a part of the larger Indigo Partners deal that was announced in 2020 (those of you will remember the seat that Frontier uses – this is the same seat).
The modular SL3710 economy class seat weighs approximately eight kilograms, which minimises the operational costs for the aircraft
This seat was developed specifically for short-haul flights featuring a slim, ergonomic design that enhances the passenger living space, whilst maintaining comfort.

“By collaborating with the airline from the preliminary stages, we made sure the end result was a sustainable product that met the needs of both JetSMART and their passengers.”
Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSMART.
“We worked closely with RECARO to develop a sustainable seat which saves fuel and reduces emissions, by being ultralight and using recycled leather. This new technology allows to add another key component to our Ultra-Low-Cost model and delivers a comfortable experience to our passengers,”
Supporting the airline’s growth
Chile-based JetSMART sed out as a domestic airline but has expanded into the South American Market since its founding in 2017.
Today, the ultra-low-cost airline flies 43 routes to 25 destinations in six countries across the continent. Since its inception, it took over Norweigan Airlines Argentina and has received investment from American Airlines, allowing its passengers to earn miles on them.
The airline has a backlog of 47 Airbus A320neo, 34 Airbus A321neo and 14 Airbus A321XLR, with a registered fleet of 19 aircraft currently.
With all those aircraft to come, Recaro is going to be the main interface between the customer and the airline – as that’s where they will be sitting when they fly them.
The SL3710 is a passable option for the operation the airline is flying, allowing them to transport a lot of passengers at a level of comfort.
An important part of the passenger experience.
