Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (5th November)

We’re now barrelling toward the end of the year with a frightening speed. With clocks gone back and darker nights here, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

And for once, I had an umbrella. Colmore Row, Birmingham City Centre after a late-evening writing session. I could have gone with a Christmas market photo, but even I have limits.

Trip Report: Fall Fun in the Windy City

I’ve managed to hit the publish button and start the latest trip report, now a lot of the writing has been done, with a lot of the slotting images into their homes to be done. This trip report publication isn’t a race, so I am taking my time to get it out. It also gives me time to write up bits that urgently need attention.

Iberia to switch to a revenue-based Avios earning, British Airways to follow – It seems that Iberia and British Airways are preparing to make significant changes in how you earn Avios. If you pay for your tickets out of your own pocket or use flying as your primary source of earning miles, be prepared for one hell of a haircut.

Emirates and Air Canada commence their codeshare – And the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Ryanair announces new routes for Newquay and Birmingham Airports as part of Summer 2023 expansion – Cheapish flights. Providing you play the Ryanair game.

RMT have cancelled their rail strikes

The RMT union have suspended their strike against the railways. It didn’t help that timetables were fixed to the point that services were crippled today. Hopefully, things will settle soon. Although the other rail unions have active disputes too, that need settling.

Emirates kicks off cabin refresh programme – 120 aircraft to refit. A long road to go.
Birmingham Airport prepares to expand its security screening area – Well, it can only help the passenger experience through that airport.

Next Week

In the publishing pipeline we have, I’ll be continuing the Chicago Trip Report (if three posts get out this week, I’ll consider it a success), as well as your regular headlines.

There are a few other things going on in Kevin Land that might dictate what happens towards the end of the year. Things that will impact me into 2023 – so there is more than a little cog grinding going on at Kevin Towers.
