Emirates bumps up capacity to Colombo

24/11/2022 by Kevincm

With seasonal traffic being a thing, Emirates has announced plans to add an additional daily direct flight between Dubai and Colombo, starting from 1 December 2022,

The additional service, operating as EK648/EK649, will increase the number of daily flights between the two cities to three, including two direct flights and one operating via the Maldivian capital, Male.

Emirates’ second daily flight will operate direct between Dubai and Colombo, except between 16 to 30 December, when the service from Dubai to Colombo will stop over in Male.

The planned operation is as follows:

1st - 15th December, 31st December to 26th March

EK648 DEPART DXB 16:10 ARRIVE CMB 21:55
EK649 DEPART CMB 02:55 ARRIVE DXB 05:55

16-30th December
EK648 DEPART DXB 10:30 ARRIVE MLE 14:45  - DEPART MLE 17:15 ARRIVE CMB 19:15
EK649 DEPART CMB 02:55 ARRIVE DXB 05:55
Note: Does NOT route through Male on its return leg.

Operates 1st December through 26th March 2023
Booked Equipment: Emirates Three-Class Boeing 777-300ER

Emirates will operate its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration on flights to Colombo, offering private suites in First Class, lie-flat seats in Business Class and recliner seats in Economy Class, with all seats having access to the ice IFE system.

Editors note: The Emirates copy said spacious when talking about its economy class seat. That’s a claim and a half).

Get ready for some more seasonal traffic shifts

As we head into the holiday seasons, demand will spike as people return to see loved ones – or in the case of some – escape their loved ones for a bit of rest in the sun.

Seasonal traffic is something airlines should be used to – even after the past few years when it dwindled.

With networks strengthened after the past year as well as people needing to travel at the peak periods the extra capacity will be welcome to travellers who need to travel to and from Colombo.
