Time for another snapshot – looking at the hotel experience of the Crowne Plaza in Geneva.
In case you’ve forgotten how we do travel write-ups on Economy Class and Beyond, I have two major travel writing styles:
- Trip Reports – These are full deep-dive reports taking you into the experience and the small things… as well as the big things!
- Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the basic product in some nice gentle headlines (and normally, only images shot on the phone).
Today, we’re on the Snapshot. The full in-depth review is a work in progress (I’ve only got as far as the first bit at the time of writing).
Location
The Hotel is around 1 and a half km away from the airport, with it accessible by Bus 10 from the Airport/City Centre, or via a Shuttle bus.
Check-in
Check-in was on the ground floor of the hotel. I was welcomed to the hotel. I was upgraded to a Delux Room with a mountain view from my original booking – a nice touch.
As a welcome amenity, I was offered the choice of points, a drink at the bar or breakfast at the hotel. Readers will be in shock to learn that I chose breakfast (a CHF 24 value).
The Room
The room was located on the 7th floor of the hotel. Being a deluxe room, it had a sofa in it (which was more than comfortable if I’m being honest), a double bed and a bathroom that… well.
The bathroom had sliding doors – both to access the bathroom and to peer into the main room. I’d love to meet whoever came up with that trend to show off a bathroom to a room.
Inside the bathroom, there were some Elemis amenities in miniature form, as opposed to bulk products. The bathroom was also a large space, with room to move about in, with a bath/shower combo unit.
In terms of amenities, there was a pro-Nespresso pod machine in the room (versus the consumer ones that I’ve spied in other Crowne Plaza hotels this year). A mini-bar was also available too, along with an iron and ironing board.
Side note: I’ve yet to find a German hotel with an iron and ironing board.
Obviously, I need to spend more to investigate if this happens in other countries and not just in Germany. So far, Finland, Switzerland and the USA have managed to do this without too many issues this year).
As for the view – was there a mountain view?
Oh yes. Once I worked out the controls for the blinds.
Breakfast
As my Diamond Amenity, I chose breakfast. This was a buffet-style breakfast, with a choice of hot items, cold cuts, fruits and an omelette station.
Whilst this was a help-yourself offering, the area was well staffed, with them cleaning up quickly, as well as helping with making drinks.
Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi was provisioned, with about 7Mb download speeds measured.
Check out
Checking out of the hotel was simply a matter of presenting the room key and stating the room number to check out. With that, I was able to use the Shuttle bus to return to Geneva airport – rather than wait on the Number 10 bus.
The full review of the Crowne Plaza Geneva is coming soon!
