It’s that time of the week again, when I start assembling links and add witty commentary, whilst trying to enjoy a Gin and Tonic whilst typing.
Welcome to Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.
A much quieter than usual Birmingham New Street. Thank the strike action…
SNAPSHOTS: Geneva Trip
Two of the Snapshots made it out – the third will make it out sometime tomorrow, with the trip report hopefully starting the middle of next week – subject to editing. .
Routes and Networks
- Aer Lingus adds summer 2023 destinations, and firms up its network – Lots of Europe and Transatlantic, but there’s still an aversion going further east than Europe…
- Lufthansa firms up more of its Summer 2023 operation – More European Destinations. And some long-haul from Munich
- Etihad to offer New York Double-Daily – A total of 28 flights a week to the USA from Abu Dhabi.
Aircraft news
- United Airlines goes shopping – comes out with at least 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners – It’s amazing what you can get at a Black Friday sale
- SWISS unveils more details about their upcoming Airbus A350 fleet … as well as its size – It’s a small number of aircraft, but more than enough to wave goodbye to the A340 fleet with.
Rail
- The newest wave of UK Rail Strikes hits – this time in 48-hour chunks – and more are expected next week.
- Eurostar trims services over the Christmas Season – including a day of cancellations – You might want to check your Eurostar plans
Connectivity in the Air
- Sichuan Airlines to partner with Viasat and China Satcom for In-Flight Connectivity – 15 to start with.
Passenger Experience
- UK Department for Transport to slowly loosen liquids rules from 2024 – Good news for those who like liquids over 101ml. Bad news if you’re connecting somewhere else…

Next Week
I don’t mean to panic people, but it is one week before we ram into the Christmas and New Holiday Period. We’re going to focus on important travel updates (especially if you’re going to try to travel in the United Kingdom… this could be one of the roughest years to travel).
We’ll also go through the last big stories of the year, as well as kick off a rather festive trip report to Geneva.
Until then, stay safe, have patience when you travel please and happy landings!
