Finnair to expand Asia services for Summer 2023

20/12/2022 by Kevincm

Whilst Finnair has suffered since certain airspaces have been closed to them, the airline is making a major play for Summer 2023, with flights added for the season to Asia.

Let us break down the details:

  • Helsinki to Osaka – Resumes with three weekly flights from 26th March (Helsinki–Osaka route is operated on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and Osaka–Helsinki on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays)
  • Helsinki–Tokyo Narita  – Resumes 26th March – (Helsinki – Tokyo- Narita on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and Tokyo Narita–Helsinki on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays)
  • Helsinki – Tokyo Haneda – Operates Daily
  • Helsinki – Delhi – Operates Daily
  • Helsinki – Hong Kong – Operates Daily

Finnair’s flights between Helsinki and Japan are operated in codeshare with the airline’s long-term partners – Japan Airlines and British Airways, offering choice and flexibility for customers travelling between Europe and Japan.

Ticketing for these flights is open, via Finnair’s site or other methods

Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair said:

“We are happy to be able to respond to the increasing travel demand between Europe and key Asian destinations. In summer 2023, we will be operating altogether 14 weekly connections between Finland and Japan, and we have daily connections to Delhi and Hong Kong,”

“The Helsinki Airport with its spacious new facilities offers an excellent experience both for customers visiting Finland and for those who continue onwards to one of our many European destinations.”

Growing despite sanctions

Finnair was adversely hit when airspace restrictions went into effect – negating some of the benefits of the Helsinki hub, allowing for fast transfers and quick flights.

However, the passenger demand is there still for the airline, with some pretty big capacity increases on the Aisa network.

Whilst flights might be longer and some of the benefits have been negated, it seems demand has returned to a point where Finnair can start offering new options.
