Back to Geneva Airport
With my time in Switzerland coming to an end for this trip, I walked back to Geneva Airport, I headed for the first train that was heading for the airport – which was a double-decker train.
We all know the rules by now – if there’s a double-decker train and you have no luggage, the upper deck is where we go.
Even if it is for a mere six minutes.
Arriving at the train station, I followed the signs to Check-in. And it was a stupid move too as it would mean I would have to go outside. So, a pro tip. Follow the signs to arrivals, then head upstairs if you enjoy staying warm.
Making my way into the terminal, I was greeted by a bank of check-in desks.
With no need for me to use one, I headed to the mezzanine level and headed towards security.
I was directed in a particular direction – which lead me to security lanes that had CT Scanners as opposed to the classic X-ray ones. It means you can keep your items in your bag without breaking the war on liquids and gels.
My bag was pulled as they wanted to swab the inside of my bag (and the chocolate was probably giving off odd readings), but soon enough, I was allowed on my way.
Of course, we all know that retail is such an important part of the makeup of how an airport makes money – and Geneva Airport is no exception to this rule, with the usual mixture of high-cost duty-free shops, designer brands and local tat from the newsagent.
Geneva airport also employs a very British way of announcing gates – as in “wait for xx minutes before we announce a gate”, keeping you in the main waiting area (and near the retail) as long as possible.
Eventually, I knew before the formal announcement we would be going from B43 – this would be at one of the satellite boarding areas.
I headed towards the B Gates and down a tunnel – although no tunnel is as good as the United Airlines Brainwashing tunnel under O’Hare T1.
Air France Airbus A320
Which way?
Down the tunnel
At the end of the tunnel was the Schengen Border control. Again, I presented my passport to the agent. With that, I was stamped out of Europe.
Sadly, this level of inspection is only going to get worse with planned fingerprinting and other biometrics covered.
What a benefit we have.
Once past the Schengen border, it was a matter of following the signs to the right-hand satellite. I turned right and popped out to one of the midfield satellites.
In terms of amenities, there was a shop, doing duty as duty-free and a snack shop, as well as seating.
And expensive Swiss Chocolates
It was a little busy – mainly as an EgyptAir flight was preparing to board, as well as our flight.
As boarding time can up, the podium activity increased.
Soon, boarding was announced. With Speedboarding passengers being cleared first, it was a matter of presenting myself at the podium.
Once through the gate, passengers had to head stairs to board the aircraft – a little different – but there you go.
What wasn’t unusual was the wait on the stairs, as the crew were not quite ready for us.
Eventually, the tensabarrier was removed, and we aware allowed to head down the jetway.
