To the Coffee shop. Or not.
Getting off the aircraft, I was greeted by this odd thing at Birmingham Airport – it’s called a Jetbridge. Whilst they seem to use them sometimes, there is a love of making people walk on the tarmac and then into the terminal.
Some logic prevailed that day, given the low visibility all around.
Thank you, A319!
From here, it is a matter of the hike towards the UK Border – where tensabarrier city awaited.
Not a bad passenger experience idea for those who have little ones.
Aer Lingus Airbus A320 loading up.
Thankfully, the tensabarriers were empty – allowing me to proceed proceeded to immigration.
Arriving at the border, I headed over to the manual clearance area. I was asked to present my boarding pass by the agent which had trouble believing I had just flown in from Geneva. With the agent satisfied, I proceeded through to baggage claim and exit.
Although Birmmignahm airport has changed its tune about baggage handling recently if this graphic is anything to go by.
Everything has a journey – even your baggage.
Passing through baggage claim (as I had the world on my back), I headed to the Green Channel and the exit. With no one in customs, it was a matter of going through the Duty-Free shop and to the public area.
Through the green channel
Exit via the shop.
Prop city – Flybe, Loganair and Aer Lingus Regional (Emerald Airlines)
Once in the public area, it is then a matter of backtracking through the public terminal, the check-in areas and finally, back up to the Air-Rail Link.
My timing sucks.
Approaching Birmingham International.
I could have ordered a train ticket at this point, but in the end, I was lazy and brought a ticket from the machines at Birmingham airport. Another £4.60, and I had a ticket for the next train into the city.
There was a short wait, but eventually, a train came to pick me up and take me back to the city centre. The train was delayed – but I was not in any rush at this point – heck, it was still daylight.
Ah. A train that isn’t on strike. Unusual, to say the least
Bailing out of the train, I headed back into the bright lights of Birmingham New Street and over to the shops – because as much as I would like to dine on sandwiches, I need a proper dinner that night.
With dinner in hand, I headed towards Starbucks… and found all the seats taken. That was less than optimal, as I wanted to start text bashing and putting my thoughts into the netherworld of Google Docs.
Oh well.
I wrote off the joy of Winter in Birmingham and headed for home.
A bit of a night away, and I was at my front door again with new experiences under my belt.
Finally – To New and Old Adventures
