PLAY is continuing its expansion, with the airline planning to launch a service from Reykjavík to Toronto-Hamilton Airport.
PLAY will commence its new flight on 22nd June – opting for the quieter Toronto-Hamilton Airport as opposed to the main gateway of Toronto Pearson Airport.
The flight will operate daily from its hub of Keflavík International Airport, near Reykjavík, Iceland.
It marks the fifth North American destination the airline will serve (currently serving Stewart International for New York, Baltimore International, Boston and shortly – Washington Dulles), allowing for connections to 15 destinations in Europe.
Ticket sales have commenced for the route.
As to why? Demand seems to be the reason. According to the airline:
The addition of Toronto to our network is the natural next step for PLAY, as the success of our other North American destinations has exceeded expectations.
Cost Driven too
Why Toronto Hamilton? Cost, it seems. The airline argues that it is a small and convenient airport, with easy navigation and affordable transportation options to and from the city.
It then adds that the cost of operating at Toronto-Hamilton Airport is lower than other airports in the area, allowing PLAY to offer lower fares.

Growing out the network
PLAY is planning for a busy summer, with the airline planning to serve up to 40 destinations in Europe and North America. This is an increase from 25 in Summer 2022 season.
It will do this via its hub at Keflavík, using a mixture of Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo – with one extra of each on order, bringing its fleet up to 10 aircraft.
