Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (14th January)

14/01/2023 by Kevincm

As the nights slowly lighten, we draw towards a close to another week.

It’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Brighter evenings. Colmore Row, Birmingham (with a West Midlands Metro tram photobombing).

Firstly, an announcement

At Economy Class and Beyond, I am a strong believer in public service. As such, posts over the next few weeks will be constrained at best and at worse, slow to a stop as I am on Jury Service.

As you can appreciate, this will put a spanner in the works as I’ll be restricted in when I can report and write. I can only ask for your patience, as I juggling more balls than I normally would at this time.

Passenger Experience

  • Emirates release their first fully refurbished A380 into traffic – The first of 67 refitted A380 aircraft on the way.
  • Japan Airlines introduces “RED à table” menu – With a little variety in Premium Economy and Economy Class
  • Wanting to renew a British Passport? Get your skates on before prices increase… – Price rises ahead (along with up to 10-week waits)
  • British Airways confirms Club Suite refit aboard its Boeing 787-8 fleet – More aircraft with Club Suite coming!

Routes and Networks

  • PLAY continues its expansion – Toronto-Hamilton on the cards – Keeping costs down by going to Hamilton
  • Emirates to return to Tokyo Haneda from April onwards – Increasing coverage to both Tokyo Airports

Connectivity in the air

  • airBaltic selects SpaceX’s Starlink for onboard connectivity – The first European Carrier to go Starlink
  • Emirates taps Inmarsat for A350 inflight connectivity –

Pretty Pictures

  • KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 787-9 on final approach to Chicago O’Hare International

Next Week

I’m sure you’ve read the above on coverage over the next two weeks (at least). We’ll keep our heads above water on a reduced posting schedule, but hopefully, things will operate with some normalcy, with the usual mixture of routes, passenger experience and anything else that grabs my fancy

Until then, stay safe and happy landings!
