For those of you who love the double-decker wonder that is the Airbus A380, there is good news – as Emirates is expanding the use of the type.
Three destinations are next in the massive capacity boost, with them being:
- Glasgow (from 23rd March 2023)
- Nice (from 1st June 2023)
- Birmingham (1st July 2023)
The scale-ups are to provide additional passenger capacity on these routes.
In addition, for those who want to arrive north of London, the airline will expand its London Stansted service to operate double-daily from 1st May 2023 – ideal for those who want to connect to Cambridge, as well as the counties of Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire – without wanting to deal with the M11 and M25 to go around to Heathrow or Gatwick.
With the return of the second daily flight to Stansted, Emirates will ramp up its operations to London with 11 daily flights, including six times daily to London Heathrow and three times a day to Gatwick. The airline continues to expand its global network and increase capacity in line with growing travel demand.
Emirates currently deploys its A380 aircraft to 40 destinations worldwide. By the end of this summer, the type will be serving almost 50 destinations, restoring close to 90% of the airline’s pre-pandemic A380 network.
Restoring what was once was lost
The return of the A380 is welcome – as the destinations were customers of the A380 before the pandemic. The airline first launched A380 operations in Birmingham in 2016; in Nice in 2017; and in Glasgow in 2019.
For those airports, having the giant aircraft back will bring a little prestige in that they can still command the passenger flows to make the type viable to operate beyond the major hubs in the UK.
And yes, the Emirates A380 fleet is going through a cabin refresh, as we have covered in this blog. It’ll be interesting to see when the more “regional” gateways gain these refurbished aircraft.
Ticketing is always open at emirates.com, or via the usual travel agents.
