It might be the New Year, but Air China has given itself some presents, with the Recaro CL6720 Business Class seat taking flight with the airline.
The seat took flight aboard an Air China A350 between Beijing to Chengdu on January 20, 2023. In addition to the CL6720 seat, Air China also selected the Recaro PL3530 and CL3710 for the A350s premium economy and economy cabins, respectively, making the aircraft “nose to tail” Recaro seats.
Onto the CL6702. This “minisuite in the sky” was first unveiled in 2020 and was built to enhance the travel experience with additional privacy features and premier living space.
The seat features a lightweight structure and combines the ability to deploy it in an efficient seat configuration, allowing airlines to reduce fuel bills and reduce emissions.
The Air China customized seat features include a Chinese-style lamp in each suite, upper stowage with a uniquely-crafted drawer, specially-made privacy dividers, and an Air China customized inner soft-touch back shell.
Recaro and Air China worked together to carry out significant comfort enhancement and functional optimization plans, incorporating feedback from both design teams to make the final product.

Dr Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating, said:
“The new CL6720 entering into service for the first time in Asia is a special moment for Recaro,”
“We enjoyed our close collaboration with Air China on this program, and it resulted in a unique seating product that will be appreciated by so many travelers. Although we take great pride in the hard work that goes into our seat designs, we always remember that it is the passengers who drive our innovations forward.”
Marking the first Asian Deployment of the CL6720
For Recaro, it is a significant moment for the company as they ship and deploys an all “nose-to-tail” seating to Air China. The deployment should be an interesting thing to watch, considering the airline has 23 Airbus A350s delivered and ten shipsets worth of seats have been ordered.
It’ll be interesting to see how these are marketed and if the all-important follow-on order appears in good time to allow more passengers to experience the comfort in the sky.
And see if other customers are interested in this premium product for its passengers.
