15/03/2023 by Kevincm

China Airlines is preparing to expand its European network, with a new route to start between Taipei and Prague.

Beginning 18th of July, China Airlines will operate two flights per week between Tapei and Prague, making the airline the only one to fly directly between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.

The planned operation is as follows:

CI067 DEPART TPE 23:20 ARRIVE PRG 07:10+1 Operates Tuesdays and Saturdays
CI068 DEPART PRG 11:05 ARRIVE TPE 05:35+1 Operates Wednesdays and Sundays

Commences: 18th July 2023
Operates: Twice a week, days listed
Booked Equipment: Airbus A350-900

The flights will be carried out by an Airbus A350-900, the mainstay of China Airlines on transoceanic routes. The A350 is configured with 32 Business Class, 31 Premium Economy Class and 243 Economy Class seats.

Prague will become the sixth all-new destination to be added to the China Airlines European network. Existing European destinations include Frankfurt (Germany), Amsterdam (the Netherlands), London (U.K.), Rome (Italy), and Vienna (Austria), offering up to 30 flights a week.

Lead-in fares have been announced from Taipei, with  China Airlines is offering economy class round-trip airfares starting from TWD 27,160 (before tax). The airline is also offering bonus miles for its Dynasty members. Paragon members that take a flight between Taipei and Prague before the end of September will earn double miles. Emerald members will receive 50% bonus miles and Gold members will receive 20% bonus miles.

The airline is also offering redemption flights too, as well as cash and miles redemptions.

Growing out Europe

China Airlines competes with EVA Air on direct flights between Taipei and Europe – with EVA Air operating to Paris, Munich, Milan and London Heathrow.

It seems that growth is on the agenda for China Airlines, as it looks beyond its usual Asia and Americas destinations, as they seeks new opportunities beyond its traditional markets.

Whilst two flights a week is a mere scratch on the surface, it is a start to see what possibilities exist outside its usual destinations.
