SAUDIA Group Director General, H.E. Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar commented on the international network expansion:
“SAUDIA Group has been carrying the kingdom’s ambitions, values and traditions across every corner of its network, as it flies the nation’s flag around the world. These new destinations will offer greater access and choices to our guests. Given the increase of demand in international travel, this is the right time to expand our global network in new, exciting ways,
May you live in interesting times
It’s interesting to see that this announcement has just gone for routes – rather than frequencies or anything else. That indicates that planning is in deep progress to see what frequencies these routes can sustain. Some may be more than daily – others a few times a week, depending on the predicted passenger flow, as well as connecting traffic – something they try to highlight in their press release with the “Your Ticket, Your Visa” programme, to allow passengers to perform Umrah, visit key destinations and attend events during their transit in the Kingdom.
This allows travellers a 96-hour transit visa.
We’ll have to see what routes are popular, which will drive the customers and which are out there for vanity.
Although in today’s operating environment, operating routes for vanity is ill looked upon by accountants.
