Lufthansa is preparing to re-introduce its Airbus A380 double-decker aircraft to its fleet.
The A380s will be based out of Munich Airport, as a method of increasing premium traffic.
Meanwhile, the two destinations that will gain Airbus A380 service will be New York-JFK and Boston Logan.
Daily flights from Munich to Boston will be operated by LH424 from the 1st of July, whilst LH410 will take off daily for New York to John F. Kennedy International Airport from the 4th of July 2023.
The airline is thus noticeably expanding its premium offering at its southern hub, especially with additional seats in Business and First Class.
With 509 seats, the A380 has around 80 percent more capacity than the Airbus A340-600 currently flying on the Munich-New York (JFK) route. In total, the A380 offers four classes of travel: 8 seats in First Class, 78 seats in Business Class, 52 seats in Premium Eco and 371 seats in Economy Class.
If you’re looking to fly aboard a Lufthansa A380, you will be able to book these flights from the 23rd of March 2023.
Wasn’t Lufthansa “done” with the Airbus A380?
Lufthansa grounded its Airbus A380 fleet as the pandemic started and sold a number back to Airbus, whilst it stored the rest. However, with supply chains being tight and aircraft deliveries taking their own sweet time forced the airline to look for capacity.
And it’s been sitting in storage, in its double-decker form. Lufthansa decided in 2022 to reactivate the Airbus A380 fleet, which is particularly popular with passengers and crews.
By the end of 2023, a total of four A380 aircraft will again be deployed from Munich.
For passengers, it will have the classic experience they had when they were parked – that’s no bad thing as Allegris is still some time away.
