Azerbaijan Airlines has placed a firm order with Airbus for 12 A320neo Family aircraft. The contract was signed at a ceremony held in Baku.
The order includes both the A320neo and A321neo, although the breakdown has not been confirmed. They will form part of the company’s fleet renewal strategy to operate modern and fuel-efficient aircraft, increasing operational efficiency.
The engine choice will be announced by the airline at a later stage.
Currently, Azerbaijan Airlines operates a fleet of 15 Airbus aircraft (Four A319ceo, Six A320ceo, Two A340s as well as since this year, three A320neo).
The airline plans. to deploy the additional A320neo Family aircraft on its domestic and international route network.

“The A320neo Family continues to be a top choice for airlines looking for fuel-efficient and cost-effective fleet solutions. This order is a testament to the trust our customers have in the performance and reliability of our aircraft. We are confident that this choice will further boost the sustainable growth of Azerbaijan Airlines.”
A chance to expand
With renewal on the cards, it is pretty easy to speculate which aircraft will be targeted in the renewal programme. As Azerbaijan Airlines has four Airbus A319 and six A320ceo area, the new aircraft will probably be used to replace these fleets.
However, there is a chance for growth too, as the airline will be scaling up the aircraft it will be using, to the Airbus A320neo and A321neo, with two additional aircraft (noting that the airline operates three A320neo aircraft already).
In addition, the airline will have more seats to sell when operating the type., as the neo’s tend to have a greater seat count.
And they’ll look glorious in that Azul blue they wear.
We’ll have to see when they arrive, as no date has been identified in the news.
