Last Week at Economy Class at Beyond (8th April)

08/04/2023 by Kevincm

As we come up to Easter Day, we come to the end of another week. So it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

a highway with cars on it
Over the M1 near Newport Pagnell. Amazingly clear for a Bank Holiday Saturday…

Snapshot

Two more snapshots, before we head into the full trip report. If the $deities are with us, look out for something from Monday/Tuesday onwards.

  • Hyatt Regency O’Hare
  • British Airways 296 Chicago O’Hare to London Heathrow (World Traveller Plus)

Dirty Cash, I want you, Dirty Cash, I need you more…

  • Be careful when withdrawing cash at Heathrow Airport… – £2.50 per cash withdrawal from a Travelex machine. PLEASE BEWARE.

New Aircraft News

  • Azerbaijan Airlines firms up an order for 12 A320neo family aircraft – Lots more neos on the way
  • Icelandair to renew its longer haul aircraft… with Airbus A321XLR – Another Boeing domino falls to Airbus.

Routes and Networks

  • Finnair to cut two of its shortest domestic services – 35% load factors could be the reason why these are being cut…
  • Emirates to operate daily A380 flights to Toronto – Double Decker capacity to Toronto, with 3437 seats a week

Passenger Experience

  • ANA unveils a new Pikachu Jet – Introducing Pikachu Jet NH – Pika? Pikaaaa!
  • Virgin Atlantic prepares its Spring/Summer Menu – Sometimes, an easy release makes for easy typing. Trust me.
  • London City Airport drops the 100ml liquid rule as new scanners are fully rolled out – It’s amazing what CT Scanners can do to speed up the security experience.
  • Emirates gears up for Easter – Easter goodies loaded, in flight.

Trains

  • UK Easter Bank Holiday Rail Engineering works – And some of them are going on until Monday (and we’ll get a repeat performance in May).

Pretty Pictures

  • Airplane Art – Spirit Airbus A319 departing Chicago O’Hare

Next Week

As I insinuated above, I am almost ready to kick off the Chicago Trip Report. Meanwhile, I’m grappling with hotel prices elsewhere in the world (which is a challenge enough right now).

It’s a short week next week as well, so we’ll be taking things a little easier, as things normalise over the week. But we’ll have our usual take apart of press releases, passenger experience news and anything else that captures my eye.

Until then, stay safe, enjoy time with friends and families and of course, happy landings!
