Lufthansa adds A380 routes out of Munich

27/04/2023 by Kevincm

Lufthansa is preparing for a busy winter out of its Munich Hub, exploiting the active Airbus A380 fleet.

So, where are the Airbus A380s going?

From the 5th of October 2023, the airline will operate the type between Munich and Los Angeles, with a daily flight on that route. Shortly after, on the 28th of October will be a new route for the type – with the airline operating between Munich and Bangkok.

Lufthansa isn’t doing this out of love – rather for winter capacity, as it will offer 75% more capacity than an A350-900 that would operate on that route, both in terms of raw seat count and premium capacity. The A380 offers 8 seats in First Class, 78 seats in Business Class and 52 seats in Premium Economy.

Meanwhile, India

Lufthansa is adding routes to India, with the airline adding Munich to Bangalore, to be served with an Airbus A350 three times a week on  Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  will join Delhi and Mumbai, which are served by the airline from Munich.

Economy Class and Beyond has reached out to Lufthansa – and once we get the start date of this service, we will advise.

Lufthansa will also add its service from Frankfurt to Hyderabad This will once again provide a direct connection from Germany to India’s pharmaceutical and high-tech industries. Lufthansa will announce further details in mid-May.

As such, Lufthansa will offer a total of five destinations to the Indian subcontinent from its two hubs in Frankfurt and Munich in the coming winter.

Making use of capacity

The Airbus A380 has one thing that other aircraft struggle to match – sheer capacity, offering the premium capacity Lufthansa wants to offer its customers, be they heading to Bangkok or Los Angeles.

In turn, that can release the smaller aircraft to focus on more effective routes – such as the planned Bangalore service by the airline.

Everything trickles down in the end.

It also marks a surge in services to India, with the airline ready to take up the latent demand between Germany and India (as well as tapping into European demand).

It’s lining up to be a busy winter out of both Munich and Frankfurt.
