Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (29th April)

29/04/2023 by Kevincm

As we come to the end of the month and head into a rather busy May (and trust me – it’s going to be busy), it’s time to take a break, breath and look back at the last week in… you guessed it… Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

TRIP REPORT: Back in the Groove

We’ve broken through the writer’s block this trip report has created (although, if I’m honest, trip reports create writer’s block when trying to write, marry up the photos, deal with Grammarly errors and so on).

Three more segments for this week:

  • The Wonder of Micro Center
  • More Food Adventures Around Chicago
  • Exploring Chinatown in Chicago

Routes and Networks

  • Emirates to add Montreal to its network – The second Canadian gateway for Emirates
  • ANA plans a major increase of services to China – Lots more connectivity to China. And Munich as well.
  • JetBlue finally shows a timetable for its Amsterdam service – Some good times, but it’ll be interesting if they’re maintained into the winter…
  • Lufthansa adds A380 routes out of Munich – And more connectivity to India too.
  • Eurowings to add Germany to Dubai services – Fancy an A321neo to Dubai with 231 of your closest friends?
  • Virgin Atlantic confirms its relaunch to Shanghai – Starting Monday.

New Aircraft News

  • Avolon commits to 40 more Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft – More to lease.
  • Azerbaijan Airlines adds a further eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet – Expect some older aircraft to be replaced when the extra aircraft join its fleet

Passenger Experience

  • BA Euroflyer to operate a new buy-on-board menu from Gatwick – To Buy, To Serve.
  • Heathrow Airport gears up for the Coronation… with Luggage tags – 12,000 tags up for grabs

Trains

  • The Elizabeth Line prepares to take its final form – The final configuration is coming soon… 21st of May…

Pretty pictures

  • China Airline Cargo Boeing 747-400F climbing out of Chicago O’Hare

Next Week

We’re heading into a very busy week in the run-up to King Charles III Coronation (as the UK goes through a series of four-day weeks, with holiday Mondays ahead). We’ll have some updates for you if you’re planning to travel to London to celebrate, as well as what to expect to be opened or closed.

In addition, we have the final parts of the current trip report heading out of the door during the week, as well as any headlines that catch my eye as the week progresses.

Until then, Happy Landings!
