For those of you who want sun, golden sand and to enjoy Peruto Rico, Frontier Airlines has commenced a major network expansion to and from the island.
Flights are being offered to and from San Juan, Aguadilla and Mercedita, as they ramp up their services to offer a total of 20 nonstop routes from the island.
The new flights are listed below:
From San Juan International Airport to:
- Cleveland (four times a week)
- Baltimore-Washington (daily services)
- Chicago Midway (six times a week)
- Dallas-Fort Worth (daily services)
- Detroit (four times a week)
- Cancún, Mexico (three times a week from 11th May)
From Aguadilla International Airport
- Tampa (three times a week)
From Mercedita International Airport
- Orlando International (three times a week)
The airline has lead-in fares on these routes, starting at US $59 upwards, with terms and conditions applying.
The routes are also available through the airline’s “GoWild! All-You-Can-Fly Summer Pass” which is currently on sale for $499, for travel over the course of five months, from May through September (with terms and conditions applying).
As the airline subscribes to the Ultra-low-cost airline philosophy, everything bar the seat is chargeable. This includes advance seat assignment, a large hand luggage item, hold luggage, early boarding fee and so on. The full list of charges can be found at https://www.flyfrontier.com/optional-services/.
If you want more of the traditional airline experience, the airline also offers “The Works” as an additional option, which throws together most of the traditional priority options.

“Our major expansion in Puerto Rico is connecting the island to some of the most popular destinations across the United States, as well as Cancún,”
“In addition to bringing increased tourism to the island, Puerto Ricans now have more access to Frontier’s ‘Low Fares Done Right’ to visit friends and family across the U.S.”
Jorge Hernandez, CEO, Aerostar Puerto Rico added:
“We are pleased to know that the largest expansion of the airline in its history takes place in Puerto Rico, with eight new nonstop routes to seven U.S. cities and one service to Mexico, which will use Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport as a gateway,”
“We congratulate Frontier Airlines on expanding its operations. This growth will translate into more flight options for travelers and, therefore, more jobs and commercial activity at the airport, for the benefit of Puerto Rico.”
Connectivity is wonderful. Cheap connectivity opens up options.
I’m a great believer in having options when I travel – be it airline, airport or route, as it can provoke competition and that wonderful thing we all love – lower fares.
And let us be honest, we all love a cheap airfare – providing know what we are getting into when travelling. It helps to change the perception of travel from “It would be a nice idea” to “Why not travel”?
Whilst it will be a tight passenger experience (a- considering how densely they pack out their aircraft, that wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, along with tight hand-luggage rule requirements (allowing a personal item only), it’s enough to pack a change or two of clothes to enjoy Perto Rico.
The rest of what you do when you arrive in Puerto Rico is up to you. The last time I was there – I stayed in a hotel and headed back.
That was a fun mileage run…
