Some big news for Safran Seating who has signed a deal with VietJet for economy class seats.
The agreement covers up to 24,000 Economy class seats – utilising the Z200 Economy Class seat for its inbound 120 Boeing 737 MAX 8 200 fleet, with the first aircraft planned to Thai Vietjet starting mid-2024.

Vietjet has chosen options dedicated to passengers’ connectivity needs aboard the aircraft. This seat includes a PED (Portable Electronic Device) holder and USB ports and combines comfort, lightness and durability
The Z200 is designed for short and medium-haul missions, coming in at one kilogram lighter than the previous generation – contributing to a lower fuel burn, and lower costs to fly.

Not a bad economy seat
Economy Class and Beyond had a chance to try this seat out at Aircraft Interiors Expo, seeing it with the different configurations it is possible to deploy with.
In the configuration shown, it’s designed for both LCCs and traditional carriers who want a lightweight seat, but don’t want to compromise on the passenger experience. The multi-fold table is of interest, being able to deploy a personal electronic device without it being in your lap, to hold a drink, whilst having easy acclivity to power and document storage.
It’s a seat that has had orders from other airlines – notably Sun Express who launched the seat, offering 1 inch of extra legroom and a recline function.
For those flying VietJet in the future, it could well offer a very passable passenger experience.

The one time I flew VietJet the slimline seats caused both my wife and I backaches on a non-long haul HKG-SGN flight. I’m glad that they’ve started taking passenger comfort into consideration and will go with seats that are better than the horrific ones they’ve been choosing. The airline has immense potential but needs to move to a quality product.
