The flag carrier airline of Bulgaria has taken delivery of its first A220. They are on lease from Air Lease Corporation, with the aircraft delivered from the Airbus facility in Mirabel, Canada.
Bulgaria Air will lease a total of five A220-300s and two A220-100 from ALC, with the airline planning to operate the A220 on both regional and international routes across Europe.
Bulgaria Air’s first A220 configuration will comprise a total of 143 seats in dual-class, including eight Business class seats. The aircraft will be based out of the airline’s hub at Sofia Airport.
The airline already operates two Airbus A319, five A320-200 and four Embraer E-190 aircraft in its operational fleet, used for a mixture of scheduled service and charter services.
Continuing the growth of the A220
The Airbus A220 has been pushing ahead hard, with nearly 800 orders from 30 customers for the A220, of which 265 have been delivered.
It is currently in service with 16 airlines worldwide, with more to come as airlines consider what will suit them best in the 100 to 150-seater market.
We will have to see if more orders for the type are made this week in Paris.
