At Aircraft Interiors Expo, Recaro Aircraft Seating launched their new Premium Economy Seat – the PL3810.
The Recaro PL3810 seat is aimed at the Premium Economy market, based on work done on the market and observational research, as well as global passenger trends.
It is targeted at the wide-body market, for those airlines who want to offer a premium seat for those customers who want a larger seat, but do not wish to part with the cash for a lie-flat seat.
In terms of features, the seat has a single-plate table, a 4.5-inch centre armrest, a six-way adjustable headrest, a nine-inch recline with articulation, and a calf rest.
Another major part of the seat’s design is the privacy wings, which further enhance the living space, tieing back to the need for passengers to “own their space.”
The seat itself comes in 10% lighter than its predecessor, this gives an airline more cabin flexibility and helps save on fuel costs while making their fleet more sustainable with less fuel to burn when conveying the seats and passengers aboard.
So, what is it like in person?
Economy Class and Beyond got to take a look at a pre-event show by Recaro Aircraft Seating – and it shows that the seat manufacturer has been taking lessons from previous designs and implementing features as well as reducing the weight of the seat.
As you can see, the demonstration seat is in both modes – with the leg rest out and reclined, and in its take-off/landing mode
The seats in TTL mode. The controls, like most premium economy seats are manually controlled
Showing the recline.
Details on the cocktail table – the tray table is in its usual position.
The seat is shown with power options – in this case, a USB-A outlet and mains power
Power outlets.
The recline is pretty deep – and with a 38″ seat pitch as typical with a premium economy seat, there’s plenty of legroom to be had.
In comfort terms, the leg rest provides good elevation, whilst the recline is plenty deep in the class.
Much more to come from the Recaro booth
We’ve got a lot more from the Recaro booth – with some innovations I’m going to be deep diving into – including how recycled materials could be used to drive comfort forward, as well as their R-Horizon Suite demonstration…
And some of these concepts are more than worthy of discussion.

Nice – business seats slowly morph into first class setas while the premium economy slowly seems to morph into business seats (the old LH / Condor 767 seats)
