Recaro Aircraft Seating and Emberar to develop seating options for E1 and E2 aircraft

22/06/2023 by Kevincm

There’s been an interesting announcement out of Paris  – as Recaro Aircraft Seating and Embraer have agreed on a deal to develop a Supplier Furnished Equipment (SFE) catalogue of seats for Emberar E1 and E2 aircraft.

SFE indicates that the supplier will install the seating at the factory, where materials and parts are provided by the manufacturer.

The SFE catalogue will include the BL3710 and SL3710 economy class seats, which will be available for line-fit and retrofit configurations.

The development of the SFE catalogue will commence in Q3 2023, with seats becoming eligible for offers in mid-2024.

The Recaro catalogue will be based on BL3710 and SL3710 seats.

The BL3710 comes with a variety of optional features, including an in-seat power supply system, a tablet holder, a unique six-way headrest and a maximum 5-inch recline.

Meanwhile, the SL3710 will feature options for power system and two backrest angles. Different plastic colours are also available in combination with a spectrum of dress cover colours.

A benefit is that airlines and lessors with short lead times will benefit from the catalogue’s pre-certified seats and quick turnaround time.

Further collaboration

This isn’t the first time that Recaro has collaborated with Embraer – they have previously worked together on seating with KLM to provide seating for their Embraer E2 aircraft, as you can see.

Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating and Recaro Holding said

“Embraer choosing Recaro to provide seats for the catalogue is a nod to our strong partnership and how well our high-quality products work together to elevate the passenger experience,” said “Our entrance into the regional jet market has generated great feedback and our seats now being featured in an SFE catalogue will help us take our customer support to the next level.”

Roberto Chaves, Chief Procurement Officer, Embraer, said,

“Joining forces with Recaro Aircraft Seating means Embraer can offer more alternatives to our customers, making our products even more attractive. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to enhancing the passenger experience and delivering unparalleled value to our clients. The Recaro seats add another dimension to our interiors, more choice and less weight for our customers, and more comfort and amenities for their passengers.”

Weight matter

Recaro Seats are comfortable, as I’ve covered on the blog more than once. However, it gives airlines another reason to choose them – low weight and reliability.

As the fight to reduce weight on an aircraft is continuing, reducing the weight of the seats is seen as a way of being sustainable. whilst reducing the fuel burn needed to get an aircraft in the sky.

With the BL3710 coming in at 10kg, and the SL3710 at 8kg a seat, there are benefits to be had, without sacrificing customer comfort – an important thing on these regional missions the Embraer E1 and E2 series aircraft are asked to fly.

It’ll be interesting to see the uptake of this in the future.
