When Charging Cables go missing (or a trip to Saturn)
To Aircraft Interiors Expo with British Airways
Losing a cable is never fun. Realising you have more than a few options to replace it is a good thing. Especially if it gets you into the heart of a city.

When Charging Cables go missing (or a trip to Saturn)
I’ll be honest – there are times in my trips to Hamburg when I haven’t wandered outside the train station, the conference halls or the hotel until the dead of the night to a supermarket to get something that resembles dinner.
However, when an iPhone cable decided going walkies was a fun thing, I was less than impressed.
I suppose the odder part was I could not find a stand giving away cables at the show as a promotional item.
Now I was getting a little worried.
After I had finished my day 1 at the show, I bailed (thankfully my invite to the Crystal Cabin Awards had been lost in the post), so I had clear time to head out and go shopping.
Knowing that there was a Saturn in Central Hamburg, I held on to what remaining power I had on my phone and purchased a paper train ticket for the evening.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends – and on 5% power too…
It also didn’t help that someone pointed out where the cable for my iPhone was – around my neck (which I promptly lost the next day).
Popping out at the Hauptbahnhof, it was a damn good thing I brought a ticket for the train – as ticket inspectors were out and inspecting (and fining people left right and centre).
As I’ve said before – on trust-payment transit networks don’t be the one who thinks they can skip buying a ticket and not get caught.
From there, I needed to find Saturn – Thankfully, Google Maps is more than an adequate solution, and soon, I was heading in all the wrong directions to the shop
Saturn is best described as an Electronics shop. I’ve got no problem with that – provided they had what I wanted in stock and easy to hunt, without asking people.
Because let us face it, sometimes you want to be in and out of a shop.
Although three iPhone cables for €25 hurt – I won’t lie – when the USB C versions were a mere €10.
I also took the opportunity to get a Euro High-Speed Charger (with the phones, batteries and everything else – it was more than a good idea as the dongles coming out of the laptop were not getting any shorter). There was one discounted by Anker there… which I sighed and purchased.
You know why if you’ve read my review of a pair of Anker earbuds. At least this had only charging logic and wasn’t handshaking for a broadcast out to the internet. Speaking of which, there were many other things on the ground floor – as I was rushing around to get the cables, and charge back in my phone.
I also got a 256Gb Samsung MicroSD card too… because… well. Why not? It was €17. At least my Dashcam won’t run out of storage (or a useful spare SD Card for the camera).
I skipped on a third power bank – tempting as it was.
As well as headphones.
And I was good with USB Sticks for once. That’s when I go to Micro Center in the States to stock up…
For those who need Nespresso Pods, there’s a machine for that…
I was mildly tempted by some cheap earbuds for another review – but I’ve still got a few pairs I need to cover… and €49 isn’t cheap for crappy earbuds.
No, I didn’t need Squishes.
With everything in hand and my backpack, I enjoyed a little of the evening sun that Hamburg was offering, before grabbing a bite and heading back to the hotel.
Flixbus UK could only dream.
The was an awards show to write up.
