Sometimes when you get off an aircraft, you just want a comforting snack, sandwich or doughnut, and get the restorative energy to continue a journey.
Well, there’s good news as Greggs (a bakery chain in the United Kingdom) has opened a branch at London Gatwick Airport.
The new shop s is in Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal in the Arrivals Area, marking the first airport site in London the company has, and the eighth airport location in the UK.
The shop will be open 24 hours and will offer the company’s full menu, ranging from salads, breakfast deals, freshly-made sandwiches, bakes and sweet treats to hot food options such as potato wedges and chicken goujons.
To reflect this expanded offer and to cater for the predicted high demand in the airport, the shop will be 1600 square feet in size.
It’s also a note of how the company is growing, as they look to move beyond the high street and to key transport hubs across the UK, with new stores at Glasgow International Airport, Shepherds Bush Tube Station and Canary Wharf Station in London, the new Gatwick shop marks a significant step towards towards the goal of opening 150 net new shops in 2023

Mine is a steak bake, please
Having a value-based option at an airport is a wonderful thing – as Greggs products’ pricing is not unreasonable normally – even accounting for the airport markup (which there will be at a transport hub).
With it being open 24 hours to support the airport and the traffic going through it – especially in its location at arrivals, I’m sure there will be many a person bleary-eyed, tired who will wander to Greggs to grab a sausage roll (vegan or otherwise) and coffee to muster the energy to drive home….
I know I would…
