Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (19th August)

19/08/2023 by Kevincm

We’ve hit the end of another week and the weather is being the weather still.

Still, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Vibrant Irish Light at Dublin Airport. There’s a little more about the project at https://www.100archive.com/projects/vibrant-irish-light

Yes, it’s from last week, and no, I haven’t been out taking anything interesting this week. It’s been back-to-back for most of the week…

Snapshots

Two snapshots from my recent day trip to Dublin. And yes. It’s Ryanair. Don’t be scared…

  • Ryanair 661 Birmingham to Dublin Airport
  • Ryanair 666 Dublin Airport to Birmingham Airport

Routes and Networks

  • Air Transat looks to South America for the winter season -Like a lot of birds, migrating south is in
  • Emirates to scale London Heathrow services up to *SEVEN* flights a day – And as its operated by an older 777-300ER, you might want the A380 flights instead.
  • Delta to increase capacity to China – Shanghai Pudong gets extra flights from Delta
  • Aer Lingus adds Minneapolis-St Paul and Denver for Summer 2024 – Two more North American routes from Dublin
  • American Airlines plots major expansion in Europe for Summer 2024 – It’s amazing what you can do when you have the hardware to support a route launch

Loyalty

  • Finnair to join the magical world of Avios – Coming Early 2024. And it’s a revenue-based programme, both in Avios earning and Tier Point Earning.

Connectivity

  • Malaysia Airlines selects Viasat’s Connectivity solution for its new Boeing 737-8 – 25 more aircraft

Passenger Experience

  • Making buying a bottle of water a lot easier at Dublin Airport – Dear Airports: As Dublin Airport shows, it doesn’t have to be hard to sell a bottle of water.

Pretty Pictures

  • Airplane Art – Aer Lingus Airbus A330-300 taking off from Dublin Airport

Next Week

I’ve almost bashed the next trip report into some sort of running order at the time of writing – and provided I can get the images to match the narrative, it might surface in the middle of next week.

That’s on the proviso I get more than a few minutes to type. That’s been a challenge unto itself recently.

On top of that, we’ll have our usual mix of news, views and anything else that comes to mind.

I’m also creating a tidy space in the flat at the moment. We’re going to have a Lego build session soon if things go well…

Until then, stay safe and happy landings!
