It’s about friends

In this feeble excuse for a day out to Dublin:

  • Cheap flights, Cheap flights, Could have gone by sea…
  • The joy of Birmingham Airport at 6 am in the morning
  • FR661 Birmingham Airport to Dublin Airport
  • The Wonder of Dublin T1 Arrivals
  • Doughnuts, Friends and Plane Spotting – Airplane Art Extra
  • Back to Dublin Airport Terminal 1 – Retail, Retail, Everywhere…
  • FR666 Dublin Airport to Birmingham Airport
  • To the buses. Wait… buses?
  • It’s about friends

My reasons to get off my backside and get onto a plane can be split – be it for business, for being a tourist in a new (or familiar place) or to see friends. And travelling to see friends is an important part of the world, be they aviation geeks or not.

It’s those connections that keep the world going.

Whilst technology is a great enabler (and trust me, it has gotten a lot of people through over the past few years), nothing beats rocking up, pasting a smile on and saying the word “Hello” in person sometimes.

And those friendships I treasure a lot when days are awful or I need a memory to smile to help me through a day.

Anyhoo. Onto the wrap-up

Birmingham Airport

The mission of rebuilding an airport is a hard one. it’s a shame Birmingham Airport seems to make it harder to traverse, especially when using public transit. I can only hope this improves when the work is completed. Otherwise, it’s much of a muchness – retail, with some airbridges attached.

Dublin Airport

Whilst I can level the same accusation of Retail with airbridges attached, at least the effort is made for quiet areas – if you know where to look, ease of water bottle filling and some seating. Its a shame there’s not enough of it around.

Ryanair

Providing you can spend the time reading the rules and understand what you’re paying for (or not as the case may be), Ryanair is a perfect enough way of getting from A to B, providing you enjoy sharing your space. But, if you can find planes with the Zodiac/Safran Seating as opposed to the classic Webber seating, you’re in for a much better time.

Just don’t fight the luggage sizer. You’ll lose.

And the Doughnuts?

As good as I remember. I wish Offbeat opened a branch in Birmingham…

Next:

Welcome to the world of planning. And there is a lot going on in the background, as I plot my end-of-year travels, as well as pick up a Chicago trip on the way.

As well as ponder my British Airway Silver re-qualification campaign.

I’ll have more from my hands in a few weeks as things get booked in, as this year’s campaign was put on pause until a few weeks ago – not for the reasons I would have wanted.

Until then, thank you for reading this little adventure.
