Delta Air Lines readies its Summer 2024 European flights

23/09/2023 by Kevincm

With people hitting the Pumpkin Spice hard (your author excluded), it’s time for Delta Air Lines to show its hand for its European Summer 2024 operation.

It might involve a few Boeng 767-300ERs.

From New York JFK

Delta will add Naples, Italy to the network from the 23rd May 2024 with a daily service. This is a useful gateway to the Amalfi coast and popular sites like Mount Vesuvius, complementing the airline’s existing service to Milan, Venice and Rome.

Shannon, Ireland will also return on the 23rd of May 2024. This route was last operated in 2019, until… things happened. It will resume with a five-flight-a-week operation.

Delta has coverage to the Irish capital of Dublin from its hubs in Atlanta and Boston, as well as a newly announced service from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Dublin, which is due to start three times a week from the 9th of April 2024.

Rounding out Delta’s new trans-Atlantic offerings from JFK next summer is a nonstop flight to Munich, Germany, which will operate three times a week beginning 9th April 2024.

From Atlanta

Zurich, Switzerland joins the network from Delta’s home town with a nonstop flight commencing 31st May 2024, operating four times a week.

Additional frequency bumps to Paris and Venice are also in the offering.

From Los Angeles

For those who seek to Escape from LA, there’s good news for those going to Auckland. From 28th October 2023, the service will be extended to year-round operation. It will operate daily from November to March and three times weekly from April to October.

Delta will also increase service from LAX to Sydney, Australia, to twice daily beginning this December.

The airline will also resume a four-times-weekly, year-round service to Shanghai-Pudong International Airport from its Los Angeles hub starting the 31st of March 2024. This previously operated route will allow Delta customers to conveniently connect to many other cities in China via the airline’s partnership with China Eastern Airlines.

And other parts of the network

Several other routes are being planned for Summer 2024, with the following being listed as additional flights
  • Boston to Athens
  • Cincinnati to Paris
  • Detriot to Paris
  • Detroit to Reykjavik
  • New York JFK to Barcelona

In Quotes

Joe Esposito, Senior Vice President – Network Planning, said:

“There’s never been a better time to explore Europe on Delta and customers looking ahead to summer adventures abroad will find plenty of inspiring options – coupled with the premium services and amenities we know Delta customers anticipate and enjoy.”

A busy summer

After a few years of recovery, growth has returned to the agenda again, as Delta Air Lines appears to be bullish for its summer 2024 operation – mirroring other airlines and their desires on what wish to focus on for the season.

As the season develops, there will no doubt be more destinations for airlines to consider, more connections and more lines of profits to consider.

We’ll have to see what those turn out to be.

Disappointing, I was hoping we here in Tampa would get our Dl service to Amsterdam back. Between high demand elsewhere and the Dutch government sometimes appearing to not want AMS to be an airport any more, DL has better uses for the slots.

Ah, well, we have Sir Turtle to Grand Cayman, and that’s nicer than Amsterdam anyway.
