One thing I hate about some US Airports is the requirement at some points to exit the secure area, change terminal and re-clear security, adding time to a stressful journey.
Los Angeles International Airport has done something good – post security connections between all its terminals

When Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)’s Terminal 3 and Tom Bradley International Terminal connector recently opened, ticketed passengers and airport employees began enjoying unimpeded pedestrian access across LAX’s terminals post-security.
The new path of travel equals approximately 2 miles from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8, allowing passengers and airport users to conveniently journey to connecting flights, as well as retail and comfort options along the way.

This transformational moment represents the first time in the airport’s almost century-long history that unrestricted terminal-to-terminal access has been available to users.
The airside connectivity made possible through this recent modernization at LAX will be bolstered further when the Automated People Mover and its corresponding pedestrian bridges open in 2024.

BOAC President Karim Webb said:
“While we modernize LAX to greatly elevate our guests’ experiences, we are also advancing economic opportunities for the airport’s neighbors and the greater Southern California region,”
“The projects that now allow passengers to go between terminals post-security also provided jobs for over 7,000 local workers, equaling over half a billion dollars in wages for these individuals. The roughly 2-mile end-to-end connection from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8 will continue to foster career pathways for our local community by supporting the expansion of operations and concessions roles.”
Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, LAWA.
“The positive impacts of LAX’s transformation are starting to materialize at the airport. With this latest milestone, passengers can journey from T1 to T8 post-security without the need for buses,” said
“This is just one vital update in a collection of many that are making travel at LAX efficient, dependable and user-friendly.”
It’s a big boost
LAX has been busy transforming itself – as the development of the airport continues, with recent things such as the modernisation of the Delta facilities.
Yes, an Airport People Mover on the airside would be preferable, but having the option to walk air-side without going through security is wonderful (and I can think of airports where a walking or air-side connector would be wonderful – yes, I’m looking at you New York-JFK, Boston and to an extent – San Francisco International).
Whilst airlines can colocate in terminals to help the matter, without options for connections – especially if you’re going between non-friendly airlines, this will help.
Just allow time to connect.
And for those who enjoy airport cardio… you’ve just struck gold.

It’s not just US airports, same nonsense at CDG.

I can already see the APM is too narrow to pass the typical clueless fat American who fails to comprehend the “walk left, stand right” method.

I used to walk with a 100ltr backpack and took the tube with it.
Offenders who did not know what stand on the right meant learned.
Trouble is a 100ltr rucksack is a bit large for hand luggage
