It seems another carrier has fallen by the wayside, with MYairline of Malyaisa suspending operations as of today.
The airline seems to have been grounded due to the financial pressures pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalization of the airline.
As such, passengers are advised not to travel to airports and seek alternative travel arrangements.
The Board of Directors of MYAirline have released two statements.
“We deeply regret and apologize for having to make this decision as we understand the impact it will have on our loyal passengers, dedicated employees and partners. We have worked tirelessly to explore various partnership and capital raising options to prevent this suspension. Unfortunately, the constraints of time have left us with no alternative but to take this decision.”
“We acknowledge the anger and frustration faced by our passengers and all affected parties. MYAirline unequivocally admits its responsibility for this fiasco which was caused by our abrupt notice. Our Board of Directors and the entire MYAirline team humbly apologizes to all our passengers, Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Airports of Thailand, Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM), Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and all affected parties for this turn of events. We thank you for your kind understanding.”
Getting your money back

The state of play before MYairline suspended operations
The airline was based at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, operating to nine destinations in Malaysia as well as to two airports in Bangkok, Thailand as is was attempting expansion.
At the time of suspension, the airline had nine Airbus A320 aircraft assigned to it, with the airline planning to expand up to 20 aircraft to support growth.
As you can imagine, this isn’t happening now.
A faint hope of restart
MYairlines have tried to sound optimistic about their chances of restarting operations, with them stating:
The Board, shareholders and all of us at MYAirline will be working tirelessly to resume operations as quickly as possible but at this stage we are unable to commit to any timeline. We reiterate our sincerest apologies for any difficulty and inconvenience arising from this suspension and will do our utmost to provide any updates which become available.
At present, MYAirline is exploring all avenues to reactivate its operations and fly again. We respectfully ask for patience from all stakeholders while we evaluate all options. MYAirline will issue further updates when they are available.
We’ll see
It’s hard for a lot of people when an airline suspends operations – be it passengers who can’t travel, cabin crew, pilots, ground staff, back office and so on who are very much out of a job – or are waiting for a hope that things resume.
However, we’ve seen plenty of airlines attempt to do the Phoneix Manoeuvre (they burn and then someone attempts to revive them). The success rate has been… low.
We’ll have to see if investors can resuscitate this business and operation, and if it is viable enough for them to do so…
