Finnair to update its Embraer fleet with new interiors

25/10/2023 by Kevincm

It seems Finnair plans to update its fleet, with its smaller Embraer fleet gaining a refit.

According to the airline, the renewal gives the Embraer fleet a fresh and inviting interior with familiar elements from the previously redesigned Finnair long-haul aircraft cabins.

The renewal will be implemented during 2024–2025. The first renewed aircraft are expected to operate at the end of 2024.

Finnair has 12 Embraer E190 aircraft in its fleet, which are operated by Nordic Regional Airlines (also known as NoRRA). These aircraft are used to connect to Finnair’s domestic and European destinations. NoRRA also operates the ATR72-500 aircraft for Finnair.

It is planned that The renewed Embraer aircraft has 100 seats – matching the current seat count aboard their aircraft.

Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer for Finnair.

“We want to improve travel comfort and provide our customers with a high-quality travel experience across our route network”, says

“We will bring similar elements and feeling to our Embraer fleet as we have used in our previously redesigned Airbus wide-body aircraft”.

Pushing the investment

Finnair has been busy with its fleet recently, with the introduction of new cabins on its long haul fleet (including Collins Aerospace’s Air Lounge), as well as seats by HAECO in Premium Economy and Economy Class.

And your author has been trying the economy product recently – and I’ve got a few thoughts on my mind about it.

Reinvestment in the fleet is an important step, especially if an airline is retaining an aircraft for a longer period – which is seemingly what Finnair is doing for now, rather than opting for newer Embear or Airbus aircraft to replace them

As for the refit, there’s precious little to go on – it could be new covers and interiors, or it could be new seats. We’ll have to wait until the first aircraft goes in for refit – and what comes out.

With a planned refit being rolled out towards the end of 2024, that’s going to be a bit of a wait…
